Fantasy Memorial
Fantasy Memorial is the debut album of the Brooklyn born band, Dinosaur Feathers. It was inspired by 50's/60's sounding music and is a great album from an unsigned band.

I watch this set nearly every day. It's the most captivating live performance I've ever watched. It's even filmed extremely well which is a huge plus and adds to the experience. Watch it. Now.

The River
"There are few collaborations in the fields of improvised and neo-classical music that have created works so richly evocative as that of the Norwegian pianist Ketil Bjornstad and the American cellist David Darling. The River, the first of these collaborations, is arguably the finest, drawing upon influences as diverse as the music of the Renaissance and twentieth-century minimalism. The results are sublime; Bjornstad's introspective piano themes are delicately counterposed by Darling's meditative cello passages which haunt the listener with their searing poignancy. This is achieved both structurally and atmospherically through the use of chord progressions and performance techniques which explore the full range of both instruments in a way which emphasizes harmonic texture over virtuosity.
More abstractly, the transcendent beauty of The River is derived from the sensitivity with which the overwhelming mood of sorrow is depicted. The musical ideas are introduced through a contemplative reserve which never once lapses into sentimentality. Bjornstad and Darling are clearly two deeply thoughtful men; in this work, they epitomize the rare talent of being able to express the profundity of grief through music. A contemporary masterpiece."

Get Up, Get Out,
We Are Soldiers We Have Guns stole my heart a couple of months back. She makes this quaint, indie, pop music thats simple yet sounds extremely full at the same time. This is real indie.

Young Team
Mogwai's debut and undoubtedly their best album, Young Team is a glorious record. It's without a doubt my favorite post-rock album of all time. Listening to this album turned all the way up, lying in the dark, and doing a drug of your choice is awesome. Normally I hate people who think you need drugs to enjoy music but god damn is it an experience. I cried at the end of the album because of the sheer energy on the last track Mogwai Fear Satan. I honestly can't recommend this album enough, you have to download this right now and listen to it.

Come On Die Young
Mogwai's second album. Underrated in my opinion, if this album came out before Young Team then I think this album wouldn't receive as much flak. Having said that I think you should become a fan of the band first by listening to Young Team and then branching out to Mr. Beast, Happy Songs, or even My Father. That being said I do love listening to this album as much as Young Team but for different reasons. One of them being that this is an album experience. Instead of the quiet-loud-quiet-loud formula that they used in Young Team they use a build up for 8 songs then an explosion in the last 3. It's quite the build up...I love sitting outside on my porch while its raining at night listening to this album and Young Team. I can't describe the feeling I get.

Fight Off Your Demons
Brand New's untitled demos for The Devil and God... that leaked a few months before the albums release. You can hear some songs here that made it to TDAG in their original form(Sowing Season(Untitled 8), Luca(Untitled 6), and Untitled 9 bears a strong resemblance to The Archers' Bows Have Broken) and some that later made it as a single or as a bonus on a 7''(Fork & Knife and Brothers respectively). Untitled 4 is a personal favorite and the one I want to hear a finished version of desperately.

Into Lake Griffy
Fuck where do I begin? This is what I want to call a great pop punk record but it's really a god damned pop punk opera. It's so damn catchy and amazing. There's this girl that shares lead vocals with a guy(Tobey) and her name is Ginger. Ginger. fucking. rules. I love this girl and she makes the album 10x better. I can't even describe how good this album is. You won't be able to stop listening or singing along.

Binary Star - Masters of The Universe
Senim Silla and OnebeLo have incredible chemistry. It's a shame they haven't released anymore albums together. Definitely download this.

Pharoahe Monch - Internal Affairs
Pharoahe Monch's first solo album. One of the most skilled emcees out there, imo. Too bad he doesn't get the recognition he deserves. I will be posting some Organized Konfusion (Pharoahe Monch & Prince Po) albums sometime soon, so look out for those.

Don't know what to say about this album. Very strange, but awesome at the same time.

Trampoline
best indie rock album ever made hands down. If you don't already have this then your life is not as complete as you may have thought it was. Also go buy their new album for 8 bucks, it's just as good as this one but this one is definitely easier to listen to if you're new to the genre.
Personal Favorite Track: ALL OF THEM, "Women I Belong To" if I have to pick.
Most Popular Track: I think "Firecracker".
NEWAYS,
DOWNLOAD THIS NOW AND NEVER LOOK BACK
p.s. there is a ridiculous amount of auditory black time during Women I belong to because there's a hidden track at the end of it.
Wolves and Wishes
Wiki quote:
"Martin Luther King Chavez Dosh (born September 6, 1972), known in music as Dosh, is a musician and multi-instrumentalist based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As an artist, Dosh is a percussionist who uses various electronics, often with a Fender Rhodes. Dosh has been characterized mostly as experimental and electronic-based due to his use of many samplers and looping machines and the rhythmic feel of much of his music, with songs often relying on Dosh alone on keyboards, marimba, and drums. Dosh is often in collaboration with other musicians during live sets and on recording, both locally and nationally known."
This is what I believe to be his best work, he's mostly on the drums in this so it's essentially mad samples with him beasting on the drums etc. . . It's good stuff especially if you like electronic / ambient(ish) stuff. Basically, get it.
Personal Favorite Track: "Capture The Flag"
Most Popular Track: this guy ain't popular, but "First Impossible" does include Andrew Bird as a guest artist.

Psyence Fiction
Psyence Fiction is the debut album by the group UNKLE(James Lavelle and DJ Shadow[no longer apart of the project]), released in 1998 for Mo' Wax. The album includes collaborations with: Thom Yorke (Radiohead), Mike D (Beastie Boys), Kool G Rap, Jason Newsted (Metallica), Badly Drawn Boy and Richard Ashcroft (The Verve).
This is a classic trip hop album, the one that started it all for my love of the trip hop/electronica genres. You must have this. Go download now or you seriously suck.
P.S. I'll get on posting some of DJ Shadow's good albums soon.

Rejoicing In The Hands Of The Golden Empress
Wiki Quote:
"Rejoicing in the Hands (full title Rejoicing in the Hands of the Golden Empress) is the third studio album from psych folk musician Devendra Banhart and the second full release for the label Young God. It was recorded during 2003 and was released on April 24, 2004."
This album is probably Devendra's best one, it's your basic acoustic guitar folk with vocals that are actually pretty good for a folk artist. Pretty calming and as catchy as any other album out there, if you like folk (and even if you don't) it's definitely worth listening to.
note: he went out with Natalie Portman, instantly making him awesome.
Personal Favorite Track: The Body Breaks, but I like every single track regardless.
Most Popular (Charts wise): Insect Eyes, The Body Breaks
Mule Variations
Tom Wait's 16th album, released on April 16,1999. This album won a Grammy for Best Comtemporary Folk Album and is placed 416th on Rolling Stone's "best 500 albums of all time" (so eat it wahzoo). Anyways, it sounds like a mix of folk / blues / rock / wtf. Especially the last part, if you've never heard Tom Waits before you'll probably be wondering what you're listening to for a little bit but it does grow on you after a while, plus his voice is cool.
so enjoy and stuff.
Personal Favorite Track : Come On Up To The House
Most Popular Track (charts wise): Hold On
Dead Prez - Let's Get Free

Kool G Rap - Roots of Evil

Music to Make Love to Your Lady By
Wiki quote since I'm lazy:
"Nathaniel Merriweather Presents... Lovage: Music to Make Love to Your Old Lady By is the debut and so far only album of Lovage, released in 2001. Produced by Dan the Automator. Lovage is a studio supergroup featuring Dan the Automator producing, Mike Patton and Jennifer Charles on vocals, and Kid Koala on the turntables. It is currently out of print.
Dan the Automator provides trip hop beats while the vocals mostly consist of Mike Patton and Jennifer Charles engaging in sultry and provocative dialogue. Nevertheless, the overall tone of the album is tongue-in-cheek."
Great relaxing album that's right in between trip hop and hip-hop. If you like either genre go ahead and download, I'm fairly sure you won't be disappointed.

Fantastic Damage
El-P's debut solo album. Founder of the Definitive Jux record label and well known for the production of critically acclaimed albums such as Cannibal Ox's "The Cold Vein". He has also contributed productions to DJ Krush, Aesop Rock, Cage, Mr. Lif, Jedi Mind Tricks, Aceyalone, and many other underground hip-hop artists.
"Fantastic Damage covers a wide variety of topics in inventive ways, from the dehumanization of capitalism (“Dead Disnee”) to increasing government control (“Accidents Don’t Happen”), from lost love (“T.O.J.”) to child abuse (“Stepfather Factory”)."
The delivery may not be the greatest but the lyrics are incredibly powerful and the production is dopeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
You must have this if you're a hip-hop head.
Kind of Blue
Kind of Blue has been cited by many music writers not only as Davis's best-selling album, but as the best-selling jazz record of all time. On October 7, 2008, it was certified quadruple platinum in sales by the Recording Industry Association of America. It has been regarded by many critics as the greatest jazz album of all time and Davis's masterpiece. The album's influence on music, including jazz, rock and classical music, has led music writers to acknowledge it as one of the most influential albums of all time. In 2003, the album was ranked number 12 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. If this doesn't convince you that it's a great album then I don't know what will.

A Love Supreme

World Of Sleepers
Carbon Based Lifeforms is an ambient electronic music group made up of Johannes Hedberg and Daniel Segerstad. The goal of CBL is "to combine earth and space in fine-tuned, but still solid, musical visions, seldom forgetting the irreplaceable TB-303"
World Of Sleepers is their 2nd studio album and my personal favorite. If I had to recommend one track it would be number 7, which is "World Of Sleepers". This is one of the most emotion evoking songs I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. Starts out a little slow but the drop at 2:40 and the rest of the song after that is just blissful.
This album is beautiful. I highly recommend you download this ASAP.

Futile Crimes
The Embassy are a balearic synthpop duo from Gothenburg, Sweden that released some records through the local label Service.
Futile Crimes is the debut album by The Embassy. Released in 2002 to great acclaim in their homeland, it sadly had very little or no impact when distributed in other countries.
It's a shame because these guys are great and the songs are really catchy.
Hope you enjoy!

3. Tears Are In Your Eyes (Yo La Tengo cover)

I combined these 2 EPs into one post because they're both short and 3 of them are covers and Sylvia(An Introduction) is basically a demo of the entire Hospice album. You can hear bits and pieces of each song from Hospice in it which is, actually, pretty fucking cool.
In The Attic Of The Universe
The Antler's second album. It's the space-pop album. I don't really feel like I'm giving these guys enough credit...Their discography is amazingly consistent and very different.

Destroy The Wall Street Sundial
Roaring waves of crescendos and decrescendos, it embodies the movement of emotions. The twelve tracks on this album are enriched with dark, massive, heavy downbeats whilst sprinkled with fragile mandolin strumming that shows the depth and layered technicality rooted in the ambience/experimental genre.

À Coeur Léger Sommeil Sanglant
destroyalldreamers's debut album attacks with a satisfyingly strong assault of shoegaze and post-rock credo. A Coeur Leger Sommeil Sanglant relies heavily on pedal effects, but luckily this band knows how to push all the right buttons to piece the album together seamlessly. Warm ambiance accompanies the slow, brooding guitars, and the tracks like Orage and Swirling Colors Sink slowly wrap the listener into a cocoon of hypnotic instrumental bliss. Fuzzy takes on a new meaning while destroyalldreamers launches the most subtle yet deafening guitar attack to date. Yeah. It's that good.

The Meaning of 8
Fucking Christ this album has one of the saddest songs I've ever listened to. I probably should have mentioned in the earlier Cloud Cult posts that the lead singer's infant son died when he was 2 in 2003(or 2002 idk). Think about the title of the album now. Realization is setting in. Your 8th Birthday made me cry like a little bitch when I listened to it for the first time after finding out about his son. Sure the other albums have songs that relate or deal with his son dying but this album probably handles the loss the most directly(did that make sense?). But amid all of their sad songs about dealing with the loss they also have a bunch of songs about being happy and all that jazz. Unfortunately this album lacks the "happy" songs that made Advice so good but never the less, I still think you should listen to this.
